I can't be alone in noticing that my foreign-born students arrive on time, never say, "I don't have a pencil," never ask to use the bathroom in the middle of class, never use their phones in class, never beg for grades they didn't earn, never say, "I don't get it." They quietly try and try, then ask a question if they still don't understand.
They trust me. They follow my directions. I assume they never complain to their parents. I know their parents never complain to or about me.
They make my classes better and they make our country better.
